Cheb is a historical city in the Karlovy Vary Region - Czech Republic with about 33 000 inhabitants. It is situated at the edge of the river Ohře (also called Eger in German),at the foot of one of the spurs of the Smrčiny and near the border with Germany.On the notable market place dating from the thirteenth century are a group of houses originating from the late gothic period known as Spalicek.

Františkovy Lázně is world renowned as a spa.The salutary effects of the springs were known from the 15th century on. First,the water was used locally for salutary purposes, later sold all over Germany.In 1700, it reportedly sold more water than all other German spas combined.In the year 1793, the town was officially founded under the name Kaiser Franzensdorf(Emperor Francis II's village) and later renamed to Franzensbad,under which name it became a famous spa.Sudetenland).There was the first mud bath in the world and there operated 24 mineral springs,12 of which are still in use.The local natural mineral water has a relatively high content of dissolved carbon dioxide.The effects of the carbonic baths are shown in the better performance of the cardiovascular system,in the mild decrease of blood pressure, in the lower occurrence of chronic inflammatoryprocesses in the body, and also in terms of rheumatics, and in the improved blood circulationin tissues and the vegetative stabilisation.
3) Burg Ostroh / Seeberg -After its foundation the Seeberg castle became one of the bases which provided support to the Germancolonization of the Cheb (Eger) region. The original Romanesque castle stood there alreadyin the end of the 12th century. The current exhibition presents the development of house interiorsand furniture-making in the 19th century, the country life of the Cheb area in the 19th century,history of porcelain manufacturing and the contemporary production of the company Karlovarský porcelán,a.s.
4) SOOS – Eight kilometres north-east of Cheb, near the district of Nový Drahov is the popular Soos nature reserve.The reserve consists of peat moors and springs, with gas-producing mofettes.

5) Kynžvart Chateau – The Kynzvart Chateau is primarily known as the summer residence of the AustrianMinister of Foreign Affairs and Chancellor Duke von Metternich (1773-1859).The originally Renaissance stronghold was transformed to an Empire style chateauat the end of the 17th century.The whole area includes large park, stables and a brewery.

7) Teplá Monastery– This Premonstrate monastery was founded in 1193.Tepla Monastery represents a fine example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture.The most valuable part is the precious library which is the second largest monastery libraryin the Czech Republic, containing more than 100 000 books including more than 1000 manuscripts.
